Cambodia–Thailand Border War Escalates Near Preah Vihear, 200,000 Displaced

Tensions between Cambodia and Thailand have sharply escalated since July 24, as a renewed border conflict near the historic Preah Vihear Temple has led to dozens of casualties and the displacement of up to 200,000 civilians.

The fighting, centered around the long-disputed area surrounding the 11th-century Hindu temple, has raised alarms across Southeast Asia. Both nations blame each other for initiating the hostilities, which have seen exchanges of artillery fire, drone activity, and the deployment of additional troops to the frontline.

International observers warn the conflict could spiral further without immediate diplomatic intervention. The UN and ASEAN have urged both sides to return to negotiations and avoid further humanitarian fallout.
