China Accuses U.S. & Allies of Provocation in South China Sea Maritime Patrols
China’s Southern Theatre Command has publicly criticized recent joint maritime patrols conducted by Australia, Canada, the Philippines, and the United States, calling them “provocations” that undermine regional peace.
The patrols took place in the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone between September 2–3, involving naval vessels and aircraft.
China denounced the missions as timed to coincide with a major military parade in Beijing, suggesting a deliberate political message.
In turn, Australian officials reaffirmed their commitment to freedom of navigation and enforcement of international maritime rights under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
