David Lammy: Iranian Move to Close Strait of Hormuz Would Be 'Monumental Self-Harm'

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has issued a stark warning to Tehran, stating that any attempt by Iran to close the vital Strait of Hormuz would amount to “an act of monumental self-harm.” The comments came amid rising regional tensions, particularly in the wake of escalating military actions between Israel, the United States, and Iran.

Lammy emphasized the economic and strategic consequences for Iran itself, noting that the strait is not only a global oil chokepoint but also a lifeline for Iranian exports and trade. “Any disruption to the flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz would damage Iran’s own economy severely, perhaps more than any other nation’s,” he said.
