Historic DR Congo-Rwanda Peace Accord Signed in U.S.-Mediated Deal to End M23 Rebel Conflict
At the end of June, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda reached a historic peace agreement after years of violent conflict. The deal, mediated by the United States, aims to end hostilities involving the M23 rebel group, which had captured key cities in eastern DRC, destabilizing the region.
The peace accord marks a significant step toward regional stability and cooperation. Both governments have committed to disarming rebel forces and restoring security in the conflict-affected areas. International observers have welcomed the agreement as a crucial milestone in ending long-standing tensions.
While challenges remain, this U.S.-brokered deal offers hope for lasting peace and economic development in the Great Lakes region of Africa.
