Hungarian Opposition Accuses Russia of Political Interference
Peter Magyar, leader of Hungary’s opposition Tisza Party, has publicly accused Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service of meddling in Hungary’s elections by alleging that the European Commission is considering regime change. The accusation reflects intensifying internal political strife, as Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party faces a decline in public support ahead of upcoming parliamentary elections. Orbán has long been considered pro-Moscow, which places his government at odds with the EU amidst growing concerns over Ukraine and energy policies.
