Kyiv’s Government Building Ablaze in Russia’s Largest-Ever Drone Bombardment
In a dramatic escalation, on September 7, 2025, Russia launched its largest drone and missile strike since the full-scale invasion—deploying over 800 Shahed drones and multiple ballistic and cruise missiles targeting cities across Ukraine. For the first time in the war, Kyiv’s Cabinet of Ministers building was struck, resulting in fires that engulfed its roof and upper floors. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko described this as a symbolic and unprecedented blow, emphasizing the building had never before been targeted.
This assault inflicted four civilian deaths and widespread damage to residential structures. It underscores a shift in Russian tactics toward overwhelming force—designed to strain Ukraine’s depleted air defenses and make an indisputable statement.
