Macron Pledges to Recognize Palestinian State at UN, Sparks Israeli Backlash Amid Growing Global Outrage Over Gaza

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced France’s intention to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations, a move that has drawn fierce condemnation from Israeli leaders and widespread praise from Palestinian groups and international allies. The announcement comes as global outrage intensifies over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, now entering its tenth month.

In a major foreign policy speech delivered in Paris, Macron declared that France "will not wait forever" to recognize Palestine, adding that the move would serve as a catalyst to reignite stalled peace efforts and restore hope for a two-state solution.

Israeli Leaders Condemn Macron's UN Recognition Plan
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials blasted Macron’s pledge, calling it a “reward for terrorism” and a dangerous diplomatic blunder. Israel maintains that unilateral recognition of Palestinian statehood undermines direct negotiations and legitimizes the actions of Hamas, which remains in control of Gaza.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz summoned the French ambassador for consultations and accused Paris of “capitulating to Islamist pressure.”

Palestinian Leaders and Allies Applaud Macron’s Shift
Macron’s declaration was met with enthusiasm across Palestinian territories and among regional allies. Both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority welcomed the move, calling it a turning point in international recognition of Palestinian rights.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas praised France’s leadership and urged other European nations to follow. A senior Hamas spokesperson in Gaza called Macron’s words “a victory for the resistance” and a sign that the world is finally acknowledging Palestinian suffering.

Turkey, Iran, and Lebanon’s Hezbollah also expressed approval, framing Macron’s statement as a break from Western complicity in Israeli aggression.
