Massive Russian missile & drone onslaught
On June 29, Russia unleashed its largest-ever aerial attack since 2022—deploying 537 threats (477 drones and 60 missiles) across multiple regions including Kyiv, Lviv, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Donetsk.
Ukrainian defenses intercepted around 75%, but nonetheless suffered civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.
One of the defenders, F‑16 pilot Lt Col Maksym Ustymenko, heroically shot down seven drones before crashing and was later killed; he was honored as a Hero of Ukraine.
Following this major strike, President Zelenskyy reiterated urgent calls for Patriot missile batteries and other advanced systems from the U.S. and NATO to bolster national defenses.
