North Korea’s Nuclear Warning: “Kim Jong Un Condemns Joint South Korea–U.S. Drills, Orders Expansion of Nuclear Navy”

In response to ongoing Ulchi Freedom Shield exercises conducted by South Korea and the U.S., which involve 21,000 troops and lessons drawn from conflicts such as Ukraine and Middle East tensions, North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un denounced the drills as provocative. During an inspection of his most advanced warship, Kim called for a rapid expansion of the country’s nuclear capabilities. The ship, Choe Hyon, is equipped with nuclear-capable missiles, and another destroyer, Kang Kon, has been reportedly repaired and reactivated after a failed launch. Further weapons tests are planned for October.
