Russia Intensifies Missile and Drone Strikes on Ukraine as Kyiv Calls for Urgent Western Aid

In recent days, Russian forces have escalated their attacks on Ukraine, launching a wave of combined missile and drone strikes primarily targeting Kharkiv and Dnipro oblasts. According to the Institute for the Study of War, these assaults involved guided glide bombs, ballistic missiles, and dozens of Iranian-made Shahed drones, with a notable rise in missile-heavy night raids.

Russian troops have also made tactical advances northeast of Siversk and increased pressure near Toretsk, Novopavlivka, and various locations in Kharkiv oblast. Analysts note a shift toward larger, mechanized assaults as Moscow attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses and capture strategically important towns.

Amid the intensifying aggression, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, General Oleksandr Syrsky, is calling for urgent Western military assistance. He emphasized the need for advanced air defense systems like Patriot, as well as long-range missiles such as ATACMS and Taurus, citing severe ammunition shortages and a growing Russian threat.

Adding to the urgency, Valerii Zaluzhnyi—Ukraine’s former military chief and now ambassador to the UK—warned that the war could drag on for a decade without consistent Western support.

With frontline conditions deteriorating, Kyiv's appeal to allies underscores a critical phase in the conflict, as Ukraine braces for what may become a prolonged and intensified war of attrition.
