Trump's Approval Rating Drops to 37% Amid Growing Discontent Among Independents
President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 37%, marking the lowest point of his second term, according to a new Gallup poll conducted in July 2025. The decline is most pronounced among independent voters, with only 29% expressing approval, a sharp 17-point drop since January.
The poll indicates growing dissatisfaction with Trump’s handling of key issues, particularly the federal budget, immigration, and the economy. Among independents:
73% disapprove of his approach to the federal budget,
70% disapprove of immigration policies,
and 68% disapprove of his economic leadership.
Although support from Republicans remains strong at around 89%, and Democrats continue to overwhelmingly disapprove (just 2–3% support), the erosion of independent support raises red flags for the administration ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Analysts suggest the drop may be tied to public backlash over the controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which cut social programs while increasing defense and border spending. Ongoing investigations related to the Epstein files and increased deportation actions have also contributed to the downward trend.
With independents being a crucial voting bloc in past elections, Trump’s sinking approval could reshape the political landscape going forward.
