UK to Recognize Palestinian State by September 2025 Unless Israel Agrees to Ceasefire and Two-State Solution

The United Kingdom has announced it will officially recognize a Palestinian state by September 2025 unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza, allows unrestricted humanitarian aid, and commits to a two-state solution.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the announcement amid a deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 60,000 people have died and famine looms due to blocked aid. The UK’s decision is conditional on Israel halting settlement expansion and preventing further annexation in the West Bank.

The move comes as part of a broader international push, with France, Ireland, Norway, and Spain also moving toward Palestinian recognition. The UK’s recognition would carry major symbolic and diplomatic weight as a UN Security Council member.

While welcomed by the Palestinian Authority, the decision has drawn sharp criticism from Israeli leaders, who say it could embolden terrorism. UK officials emphasized that Hamas must disarm and release hostages, but those are not preconditions for recognition.

This landmark step signals a growing international consensus: a viable peace in the region must include a sovereign Palestinian state, alongside Israel, in line with long-standing UN resolutions.
