Ukraine Faces Deadliest Wave Since 2022 as Russia Intensifies Attacks and Global Stakes Rise

Ukraine is enduring its deadliest phase of the war since April 2022, as Russian forces escalate their use of drones and missiles in a brutal summer offensive. The renewed wave of attacks has killed at least 232 civilians and wounded over 1,340 in June alone, according to Al Jazeera — marking the highest monthly civilian toll in over three years of full-scale conflict.

The most intense assault came on July 11, when Russia launched approximately 400 kamikaze drones and 18 cruise and ballistic missiles at targets across Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv. The unprecedented scale of the attack is being viewed as part of Moscow’s broader strategy to exhaust Ukrainian air defenses and terrorize the population.
