Zelenskyy, EU Leaders Meet Trump in Washington to Secure NATO-Style Guarantees for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Washington, D.C., joined by leading European figures—including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

The high-level delegation is seeking firm security guarantees from U.S. President Donald Trump, following his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to officials, Putin signaled limited openness to NATO-style assurances for Ukraine, though without territorial concessions.

European and Ukrainian leaders emphasized that any agreement cannot involve ceding land in Donbas or other occupied territories. U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that talks are ongoing over potential Article 5-style commitments, though the scope and format of these guarantees remain under negotiation.
